Mock Viva

I have had been preparing for my mock viva which is required through this module.  This is a chance to present my idea to someone who doesn’t already know what I a doing and to get feedback but most importantly to prepare for the assessed viva later on in the module.  I prepared a range of boards showing my current process here are those boards and note prepared to assist them:

I was given feedback. I was advised to read a booked, which discusses relationships. But most importantly I was adv to look at belong more creative my approaches without losing the mindedness of the areas I am looking at.  This has given a new look on my thoughts of the chapters. I'm considering should have as much body copy, and should I capture imagery as it happens stages it and should the imagery speak for its self.  I have lots of ideas I feel I can develop.

Initial Ideas Development

I have started to develop the type for my first quotation, which I will use almost as a chapter page. I have started to look at creating a contrast in the type, to visualise the meaning of the work.  I have drawn this initially, and started to look at developing it on the Mac.  Here are the screens shots to support this development.

Initial Ideas

Mac Development

I have had a discussion about this.  It was decided I just take a clinical approach to this spread has potentially this is the start of a person life and this is general in the clinical environment of a hospital.  I could make the type represent the style of a hospital sign, as it is clear and straight to the point and represent the visual element of the start in life.  I have gathered visual examples o hospital signs.  I then looked at gather guidelines to NHS signage to help with my visual response.  I gathered the specifications for colours typeface and signage to support my developments examples do follow.

Initial Ideas

I have now created a structure for my book, which is the following

Introduction
Biological relationships
Self-relationships
Non-biological relationships.

I have started to think about the visual representation of relationships by starting with the biological side.  I have started my initial ideas through scamps… one I have got an idea I like I have been taken them on the Mac to developed initially.  I have them started to create, mood boards from these designs looking at type inspirations imagery etc, to help build up ideas and I fell to the section.

Here are my initial ideas and how i have started to develop them.

Intial Ideas

Biological - Parents

Biological - Adoptive Parents

Biological - Extended Family

Ideas/Concepts

Initially I looked at how men and women were seen as different when in fact they are just the same, so I started to look at this as a structure for my book. While developing initial ideas, I got to thinking and then realised that the relationships with yourself, determines the relationship you have with yourself and I felt this potentially could have more scope than my previous take on relationships. I have detailed some of my initial ideas regarding the idea of men vs. women below. I am not going to disregard these ideas and they still are an important part of my thinking and idea development process.

I then started to think about self relationships and areas that I felt I should cover I started to look at this on a personal level and my experiences and the relationship I have with myself and others.  I started with flow chart to start to build up a structure of the book and way I go about research etc.  However on discussion it was advised that I should approach it directly from my own view and should seek other peeps experiences: show mail.

I need to gather information quickly so I could start to think about ideas and establish a clear structure to my book. I used social networking such as face book and the university blog, to approach people from different backgrounds, age, race and religion, to gather a range of data.

The response I got was greatly received.  Again thinking about the structure, I felt that I shouldn’t just base my book just on this concept but should look at other relationships in line with this.  I started to think along the line of biological and non-biological relationships.  This would consist of parents siblings and other relationships such as friendships relationships such as loving etc
